Do You Want to Feel Good About Your Neck? Neck Lift Surgery May Be the Solution
Your neck is one of those areas on the body that can show age, no matter how healthy or fit you may feel. Sagging skin and wrinkles in the neck area can make you feel self-conscious and can make you look older than you really are. This happens for people of all weights and heights; therefore, many individuals turn to popular and safe surgical options to solve this issue. After all, you want to feel confident and look your best—without having to wear scarves and turtlenecks all year long.
How Does a Neck Lift Work?
Over time, the skin in your neck loses its elasticity and gravity pulls the skin in your neck downward, leaving your neck area looking saggy and wrinkled. Often, this skin covers the defined jaw line that provides a more youthful look. A neck lift is an excellent solution this issue: it can provide tightened skin and muscles around the neck, as well as a beautifully defined angle between the chin and the neck. Fat under the chin and neck can be treated with liposuction during the neck lift.
A qualified, well-trained surgeon will tailor the neck lift to an individual’s specific needs and realistic, desired outcome for the procedure. Generally, the goal is to surgically remove any fatty tissue that has collected in the area and remove any excess skin in order to achieve a tighter, more youthful look. Very often, neck lifts are combined with other rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift, chin augmentation, or eyelid surgery, enhancing the effect of the neck lift, while providing a youthful radiance.
Most neck or facelift procedures last approximately 2-3 hours, and are performed under general anesthesia or twilight sedation. Depending on the procedure (and the patient’s preference), you can usually return home on the same day, or you can elect to stay overnight for monitoring and additional care. Patients can rest assured that great care is taken not to pull the skin too tight, as that can leave the neck looking unnatural.
After the neck lift procedure, you will experience some swelling and bruising that usually lasts a few weeks. While scarring is a necessary part of the healing process for any surgical procedure, the placement of the incisions allows for any scarring to be hidden and virtually untraceable. Small incisions are carefully made in natural skin creases near the ear and around the hairline so that they are not noticeable after the patient has healed from surgery.
