Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty) Miami | Dr. Bernabe Vazquez

There are several factors that cause the skin and tissues along the upper arms to droop and sag. Hereditary predisposition, the natural aging process and weight fluctuations can all cause loose skin and fat to accumulate in this area. As a result, individuals may be too embarrassed to wear short-sleeved shirts and become self-conscious about their appearance.

Dr. Bernabe Vazquez, a board certified plastic surgeon in Miami, offers arm lift (brachioplasty) to contour your upper arms for a firmer and more toned appearance.

Am I a Candidate for Arm Lift?

Upper arm lift is a body contouring procedure that removes excess skin for a more flattering, youthful-looking appearance. If you are bothered by the appearance of sagging, hanging skin from your upper arms, and you are in good physical and psychological health, arm lift may be right for you.

Before choosing to undergo arm lift surgery, it is important for you to hold realistic expectations and understand the procedure’s limitations. While the procedure is an effective way to achieve thinner, tighter arms, there will be visible scarring. As an experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Vazquez is careful with where he places the incisions in order to produce the most natural-looking and beautiful results.

About Arm Lift Surgery

45-minThe procedure begins with Dr. Vazquez making an incision along the arm. The location and length of the incision will vary depending on the amount of skin you wish to have removed, however most incisions are placed on the inside of the arm. Dr. Vazquez may create either a curved or z-shaped incision in order to minimize the appearance of scarring. He will then sculpt the upper arm by removing excess skin and tissue. If you have excess fat on your arms that you wish to have removed, Dr. Vazquez can remove it with liposuction. Once the excess fat is eliminated and the skin is tightened, Dr. Vazquez will remove the surplus skin and close the incisions.

Recovering from Arm Lift Surgery

During the first week after the procedure, there will be mild bruising and swelling, which can be minimized with oral pain medications. Your arms should be elevated as much as possible and you must avoid strenuous activity and raising your arms above your head. It is recommended you wait at least three to four weeks before engaging in any aerobic exercise. Most patients are able to return to work or their normal routine one to two weeks after surgery.

It is important to note that arm lift surgery is impossible to do without leaving some visible scars. These scars will fade in due time but may remain pink and highly visible for nine months to one year or longer. Most patients, however, feel that the long-term benefits of arm lift surgery far outweigh the resulting scars.
