Breast Lift Surgery in Miami

Untitled-1Sagging breasts (or “breast ptosis”) occur for many reasons: childbirth, breastfeeding, weight loss and gain and the effect of gravity on the breasts while aging. Women who are unhappy with their breasts as a result often consider a breast lift (mastopexy) to elevate their breasts to a higher, more youthful position.

Dr. Bernabe Vazquez has nearly 30 years’ experience treating women who are unhappy with the size, shape and appearance of their breasts. He has helped thousands of women gain a sexier look and shape, re-gain their confidence and highlight their individual beauty through breast lift surgery.

Is a Breast Lift Right for You?

Do you think you could benefit from a breast lift? Find out if you are a good candidate for this procedure by seeing if you fit this description:

  • Healthy, with no serious medical conditions
  • Have breasts that are saggy
  • Have nipples that point downward and fall below the breast fold
  • Have stretched breast skin
  • Have one breast that sags lower than the other

When is a Breast Lift with Augmentation Needed?

If you are a woman who has sagging breasts that also have a “scooped out” look due to volume loss, or if you simply wish to have the size of your breasts increased, then you may wish to consider having a combination breast lift with augmentation procedure. Not only does the procedure lift the breast tissue, but the placement of breast implants restores a fullness to the top of the breast for a fuller, more rounded breast shape.

5How Does a Breast Lift Work?

The breast lift procedure is an outpatient procedure that takes one to three hours to perform. The surgery involves removing excess skin on the breast, reshaping breast tissue and suturing the remaining skin around the tissue for a higher breast position with a tightened breast pocket.

Dr. Vazquez will use one of three techniques during the surgery. These techniques use incisions in different locations on the breast from which the removal of excess breast skin will be accomplished. The technique chosen will be based on the patient’s breast size and shape as well as the amount of sagging present, and Dr. Vazquez will discuss it with the patient prior to surgery.

The three techniques that Dr. Vazquez uses are periareolar (or “donut”), vertical (or “lollipop”) and inverted T (or “anchor”). The donut incision is often used for breasts that have a small amount of sagging, and involves a circular incision around the edge of the areola. This technique requires the insertion of an implant at the time of surgery. The lollipop incision is used to correct moderate sagging through an incision around the edge of the areola and a second incision that runs from the bottom of the areola down to the breast fold. The anchor incision is often used in cases of severe breast sagging and is accomplished with three incisions: one around the edge of the areola, one from the areola down to the breast fold and the final incision made horizontally along the breast fold.

What Can You Expect While Recovering?

After surgery, Dr. Vazquez will place the patient in a surgical bra that is designed to protect and support the breasts while they heal. All patients are seen the day following surgery to have the area examined. When you return to the office after the first week, Dr. Vazquez will replace the surgical bra with support bandages or a sports bra, which you will wear for several weeks. No sutures need to be removed at this time, as Dr. Vazquez only uses absorbable sutures. The compression of the bandage or bra will help alleviate the swelling in the chest area that is common after surgery and usually takes about two weeks to subside. To reduce swelling further, patients should sleep with their upper body elevated. Cold compresses can also be applied to the breasts over the bandage or bra for this purpose. Dr. Vazquez will provide you with pain medication as you may experience a moderate amount of discomfort for the first few days. You should be able to return to work after the first week, and to light exercise after two weeks. It is recommended that you wait at least four to six weeks post-surgery to return to more arduous exercise.
