The Miami Tummy Tuck Procedure – How Does it Work?

Submitted by Bernabe Vazquez on January 11, 2013

Everyone wants to look his or her best, and not just for vanity’s sake. Looking good is a mirror for how you feel about yourself, regardless of the silhouette you project to the public.

What Can’t Be Fixed with Exercise or Diet

At Bayshore Cosmetic Surgery, we believe beauty means investing in good health, exercise, and a mental balance. Sometimes we need a helping hand, especially when it comes to situations where excess weight cannot be lost through diet and regular physical routines.

Changing the Contour of the Abdominal Region

Many people have difficulties changing the contour of their abdominal region by themselves. When a woman has had several pregnancies or when a man or a woman has once been obese and has lost excessive weight, there is often an abundance of excess skin and fatty tissue that will not go away. In these cases, having a tummy tuck can provide exceptional results when handled in the proper manner.

The Goal of a Tummy Tuck

The goal of a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is to remove excess skin and fat and then tighten the vertical muscles located in the abdominal wall in order to flatten and contour the area. Because this procedure is considered major surgery, we make sure our clients are in good health to ensure that we achieve the best results with recuperation and outcome.

The Miami Tummy Tuck

With 25 years of dedicated service as a board certified plastic surgeon, Bayshore Cosmetic Surgery’s Dr. Bernabe Vazquez has perfected a procedure designed to reduce scarring and take less time than the traditional tummy tuck. Called The Miami Tummy Tuck, Dr. Vazquez’s years of research, practice, and perfection has allowed him to hone this procedure into an art form and revolutionize the procedure.

Incorporating Liposuction Techniques

Based on what is known as a “high lateral tension abdominoplasty,” also referred to as a lipoabdominoplasty, the protocol creates a beautifully contoured waist through additional shaping of both the upper and lower abdominal areas with liposuction. Through targeting specific areas where fat can be removed in this manner, Dr. Vazquez is able to reduce the amount of cutting and lifting of tissue, while also reducing the need for a lengthy drainage process, just one of the benefits that make The Miami Tummy Tuck a preferable option over a traditional tummy tuck.

Reducing the Possibility of Abdominal Wall Damage

With less excess fluid collected, drainage tubes can be removed in 24 hours, as opposed to up to two weeks, as is often the case in a standard procedure. The Miami Tummy Tuck thus is able to reduce the possibility of damage to the lower part of the abdominal wall that can result due to the loss of excess blood and fluid.

A Shorter Recovery Time

Another advantage to The Miami Tummy Tuck is that there is a much shorter recovery time, allowing you to be back to normal with no danger of compromising the procedure. With a toned abdomen providing a smoother, firmer silhouette, there will be a marked difference between your ‘before and after,’ whereby you can be ready in almost no time to show off a tailored suit or body-clinging dress with pride.

Never a Substitute for Healthy Protocols

If you are a woman planning to have more children, we recommend that you wait until you have had your last before considering a tummy tuck. This is the same in the case of weight loss. If you feel that you can still lose pounds on your own, it is best to do so before going into surgery.

The Miami Tummy Tuck

• Shorter Scar
• Flat upper and lower abdomen
• Contoured waistline
• Tightened groin (upper thigh) area
• Drains removed in 24 hours

Conventional Tummy Tuck

• Scar from hip to hip
• Flat lower abdomen only
• Straight unimproved waistline
• Unimproved groin (upper thigh) area
• Drains remain for 1-2 weeks

The Partial or Mini Tummy Tuck

There is also a procedure called the partial or mini tummy tuck. This is a less invasive type of surgery that can be undergone when fat deposits are located below the navel. Generally this type of operation is given for those who are relatively thin and still have a waistline, with only a bulge of fat in the lower abdominal area. If there is some excess fat in the upper abdominal area, this can be taken care of with liposuction.

Because the excess of skin is minimal, there is no need to move the belly button in a partial or mini tummy tuck. Usually the procedure takes only two hours to complete, with a faster recuperation period afterwards.

Never a Substitute for Diet and Exercise

An abdominoplasty of any kind should never be a replacement or alternative for diet and exercise, but rather a last resort. Dr. Vazquez will always insist that you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen once you have fully recuperated from your surgery in order to maintain the results.
